HARRY joined our United States Marine Corps on June 27, 1948 completed Boot Camp at Parris Island, SC. and was assigned to a Guard Detachment stationed at Yorktown Naval Mine Depot, Yorktown, Va., for about 2 years. As the Korean War started, HARRY volunteered for first replacement draft for First Provisional Brigade. While enroute to San Francisco his Orders were changed and he was assigned Camp Pendleton, California and helped form the 1st. Marine Division which was getting ready to ship out, destination - KOREA. HARRY was assigned to 1st. Tank Battalions and put in Flame Tanks. HARRY made the Inchon Landing on September 15,. 1950. After the liberation of Seoul, Korea HARRY participated in the Chosin Reservoir Campaign from October to December 15, 1950. HARRY then participated in the 1951 Spring and Summer Campaigns in North Central Korea. HARRY was transferred to A-Company, 1st Tank Battalion in april 1951 and promoted to Sergeant. HARRY served as a Tank Commander on a M-26 Pershing. HARRY rotated back to the United States in August 1951 and Stationed was at Jacksonville Naval Air Station located in Jacksonville, Florida. HARRY was Assistant Brig Warden at the Navy Brig. HARRY was promoted to Staff Sergeant in March 1952 and received an Honorable Discharge from The United States Marine Corps on June 27, 1952. HARRY returned to his home in Orlando, Florida and joined the Active Marine Corps Reserve which he participated with for the next 10 years. During this time HARRY was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.HARRY's personal Military Awards are:
In civilian life HARRY worked in various Aerospace Industry jobs including one at Cape Canaveral, specifically on the Gemini Space Program as an associate engineer. In 1967 HARRY moved to Texas with LTV aerospace Corporation located in Dallas, Texas. There HARRY was assigned as a associated engineer working on different Military Air crafts. HARRY then joined AM International as a service technician until HARRY retired in 1990 after 18 years service. HARRY is now a Life member in MARINE CORPS LEAGUE and V.F.W. and belongs to the 1st. Marine Division Association and The Chosin Few. HARRY's family includes his lovely wife DOTTIE, 2 daughters TERRI and DESIREE and son DARYL, 6 grandchildren COZMO, SHANNON, WHITNEY, JIMMY and Twins AUSTIN & AUBURN.
HARRY is now on Active Duty with the EASTEX Detachment, Department of Texas, Marine Corps League. Members of the Eastex Detachment are very proud to have Mr. HARRY E. BRUCE as one of our life members.
